DIY SOS!  Your Village Hall Needs You!

Ok, we’re not quite in the realms of some of the projects you may see on DIY SOS, but our Village Hall is in need of a bit of a spring facelift in some areas.  There has already been some changes including new plumbing in the gents loo, and the ‘comfy chairs’ have been replaced.  Now the plan is to lighten some of the emulsion and gloss colours etc, so make it more appealing for a wider audience to hire, including us villagers!   We have been asked if anyone from the Residents Association would like to help with some of this redecoration.

The work would be along the lines of the seawall rebuilding we did last summer, in that it would be a great community project and great way to get to know people in the village.  Anyone who was involved with that will know how much fun it turned out to be, despite the physical hard work.  (I think we all enjoyed the party afterwards too!)

There are 3 weekends available in March, starting around 9.30am each day:-

Friday 5th
Saturday 6th

Friday 19th
Sunday 21st

Friday 26th
Saturday 27th

Sunday 28th

If you are able to help, get in contact with me either via email or call 9246 0933 with the dates that you are able to assist and the rough amount of time you can offer.  When we know how many willing hands we have, then we can plan what to do on each day.  Also if there is anyone out there with specialist skills or equipment which would be of use, then we’d love to hear from you.

The jobs to be done are:

  • Moving bits and pieces out of the way of the area to be worked on that weekend
  • Filling and sanding
  • Rubbing down woodwork
  • Washing walls prior to painting
  • Putting down masking tape to stop paint going where it’s not supposed to go
  • The actual painting – gloss and emulsion
  • Tidying up
  • And the most important job, tea making and ensuring everyone has enough biscuits.

All the paint, sand paper, sponges, filler, masking tape, sugar soap will be provided by the Village Hall team, however there are a few non consumables that we could do with a hand with, such as:

  • Dustsheets
  • Buckets for washing down walls
  • If you have a favourite brush or roller and want to paint, please bring it along,
  • Paint trays

As a thank you, there will be a party for the helpers in the revamped hall, much along the same lines as the sea wall party – ie bring a dish, drinks will be provided.

Many thanks
