Give Back This Christmas with NEHRA's Reverse Advent Calendar

Support local families in need - one item at a time

As the festive season approaches, we are once again calling on the Hayling Island community to take part in our Reverse Advent Calendar - a heartwarming initiative in support of the Hayling Island Community Pantry.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of local residents, last year's campaign saw over 50 boxesof essential items and festive treats donated. These thoughtful contributions helped brighten the holidays for families across the island. This year, NEHRA hopes to do even more - and we're inviting you to be part of it.

What Is a Reverse Advent Calendar?

While a traditional advent calendar offers a daily treat, a Reverse Advent Calendar flips the idea - it's about giving instead of receiving.

From 1st November, participants are encouraged to add one non-perishable item each day to a box or reusable bag. By early December, you'll have a generous collection ready to donate - filled with items that will make a real difference for local families this Christmas.

Think: pasta, tea, tinned goods, toiletries, festive chocolates, or even a new toothbrush. Every single item counts.

Early donations are vital, as they give food banks and pantries enough time to prepare and distribute supplies to those who need them most.

How to Take Part

Getting involved is simple - and every household can make a meaningful contribution:

1. Find a Box

Use a sturdy cardboard box or a bag for life.

2. Add One Item Each Day

Start in November and build your box with useful, non-perishable items.

3. Use Our Suggested List

Download the handy checklist to guide your donations - or feel free to get creative!

4. Donate Your Box

Drop it off at NEHRA's Carols in the Village event at Northney Hall, 11th December, 7pm, or email membership@nehra.org.uk to arrange a collection.

5. Delivered with Love

NEHRA will ensure all donations are delivered to the Hayling Island Community Pantry at Hayling Library in time for Christmas.

Together, We Can Make a Difference

Whether you fill a whole box or donate just a few items, your kindness will go directly to families on Hayling Island who need a helping hand this winter. It's a small daily action with a big local impact.
